HistoLink Consultants™

We help design continuous-flow histology spaces that eliminate processing bottlenecks.

We help create laboratories that are commissioned and ready for first specimen — laid out to run. Setup, launch, training, quality, and validation are on site. Remote consulting is available for a single service when you do not need a full engagement.

About

Pathology infrastructure, from space to first run.

With over 20 years of anatomic pathology experience, HistoLink Consultants designs the space and commissions the line. We help create a running lab from a blank floor to the first successful specimen — layout, equipment, workflow, and quality systems together.

Hospital networks, private labs, and research groups use us when the footprint, the pipeline, and day-one readiness have to hold. Setup, launch, training, quality, workflow review, and validation are on-site work. Remote consulting is available for a single service and is billed as its own engagement. Full hospital builds are scoped one-on-one. We do not sell, host, or own a laboratory information system; LIS guidance is independent.

How we build a lab

The method: layout, launch, and quality as one path. Training, interview screening, and LIS guidance sit alongside when you need them.

Lean process

  • Lean Process Architecture — smart layouts that enforce a smooth, unidirectional sample flow to avoid bottlenecks
  • 5S methodologies — Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain
  • Space for instruments, grossing, and ventilation

Commissioning and launch

  • Empty floor to a commissioned tissue lab
  • Accessioning, grossing, and processing through staining and slide distribution
  • End-to-end dry runs before live specimens

Precision and quality

  • Hardware placement, setup, and performance baselines
  • SOPs mapped from the real workflow
  • Layout audits for contamination and tracking errors

From space to first run

What a typical consulting engagement leaves on the table, and what HistoLink stays for.

Lean process architecture

Typical firm

Square footage and general aesthetics.

HistoLink

Smart layouts with unidirectional sample flow to avoid bottlenecks.

Workflow logistics

Typical firm

High-level workflow theory on paper.

HistoLink

Ergonomic stations that cut bottlenecks and physical friction.

Equipment and tech

Typical firm

Installation and calibration left to vendors.

HistoLink

Turnkey setup matched to the instrument specs.

Live launch

Typical firm

Hands off after drawings go to architects.

HistoLink

On-site through launch, with workflow dry runs.

Pipeline calibration

Typical firm

Staff expected to sort technical flow after go-live.

HistoLink

Tissue pipeline tuned from accessioning to staining before the first live specimen.

Services

Setup, launch, training, quality, workflow, and validation happen on site. Remote consulting is a billed option for a single service when you do not need a full setup. Hospital laboratory full builds are scoped one-on-one.

Lab Setup

Continuous-flow histology spaces that eliminate processing bottlenecks, plus a commissioned tissue pipeline ready for first specimen.

  • Lean Process Architecture: unidirectional sample flow
  • Equipment selection aligned to footprint and daily throughput
  • Tissue pipeline from accessioning to slide distribution
  • Validation protocols for processing and staining

Instrumentation Selection and Purchasing Setup

Optimized laboratory instrumentation selection and purchasing setup by aligning equipment specifications with physical footprint and daily throughput requirements. Available as a standalone service or as part of a full lab build.

  • Technical requirements and vendor vetting
  • Selecting the exact makes and models
  • Coordinating quotes and creating carts
  • Placing the order on your behalf

IHC and Special Stain Platforms

Immunohistochemistry and special stain platforms: instrument selection and purchase guidance, antibody selection, set-up, and validation. Standalone or part of a full lab build.

  • IHC and special stain instrument selection
  • Guidance on which platforms to purchase
  • Antibody selection
  • Platform set-up
  • Validation
  • You pay the vendor; we manage selection and ordering

Quality Control Systems

CAP and CLIA-ready QC, plus layout checks that cut contamination and tracking errors.

  • CAP and CLIA compliance frameworks
  • Internal QC program design
  • Staining and processing troubleshooting playbooks
  • Inspection-ready documentation

Training and Competency

Onboard histotechs well and keep the whole bench sharp.

  • New histotech onboarding programs
  • Competency assessment design
  • Continuing education modules

Interview and Resume Screening

Assist with interviewing and weeding out prospective resumes. We do not hire or place staff.

  • Resume review and weeding out
  • Technical interview assistance
  • Fit notes for your hiring team

Workflow Optimization

Tighten the tissue pipeline and daily flow to cut delays and errors.

  • Current-state process mapping
  • Bottleneck and error analysis
  • Redesigned daily workflows
  • Implementation support on the floor

Operational Excellence via 5S

Custom 5S programs (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) that maximize floor space, lower operational costs, and build visual control systems your team can sustain. Standalone or part of a full lab build.

  • Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain
  • Custom 5S program design and deployment
  • Floor-space and visual control systems
  • A program the team can sustain

LIS Guidance

Independent advice on laboratory information systems you already use or are considering.

  • Needs assessment for histology and anatomic pathology
  • Vendor-neutral evaluation of standalone LIS products
  • Workflow and interface mapping (accessioning through sign-out)
  • Custom grossing templates designed for your laboratory’s unique specimen types
  • Implementation and go-live guidance with your chosen vendor

Remote Consulting

A billed single-service engagement by video. For targeted help when you do not need a full on-site setup.

  • One service at a time
  • Working sessions by video
  • Written findings and next steps

Instrumentation detail

We do the heavy lifting. You keep financial control.

Finding, vetting, and ordering the right instruments takes time you don't have. We manage the entire process for you—including selecting the exact models and setting up the purchase. Because you pay the vendor directly, you get total transparency, manufacturer-direct pricing, and immediate ownership, while we handle all the logistical legwork. Same split for IHC and special stain platforms.

How we work together

The method is above — how a lab is built. This is the engagement: how we start, when we are on site, and how the work is scoped.

  1. 01

    Scope the work

What you need, on-site vs a single remote service, and whether this is a hospital build scoped one-on-one.

  2. 02

    Do the floor work

When the job requires it, we are on site — stations, equipment, SOPs, and the tissue pipeline from accessioning to slide distribution.

  3. 03

    Prove the run

Dry-run the workflow before the first live specimen. Then you sign off.

  4. 04

    Hand it off

Training, QC, and habits stay with your people. Follow-up is scoped. We are not an LIS vendor.
